Book Review (3/5) – Oryx and Crake (Margaret Atwood)

Published

Originally published on Goodreads.

It was difficult to get into this because of the writing style and how it jumps around in the timeline, but as more of the chapters focus on the pre-disaster period and what led up to it, it becomes an easier read. The writing style perhaps reflects the mental condition of the main character but I found this made the initial chapters hard going.

Nevertheless, the parallels with modern-day science are interesting and make it worth finishing the book just to find out what happens. It explores a much more commercial approach to human and animal genetically engineered products than we appear to have today, but is believable enough. However, I won’t be continuing reading the rest of trilogy.
