Book Review (3/5) – Breaking the Code: Westminster Diaries (Gyles Brandreth)

Published

Originally published on Goodreads.

I wasn’t sure if I would like the diary format but I got into it easily. The challenge is that because it is reproduced-as-is chronological diary, with nothing extra added, the detail and commentary on each day is inconsistent.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed this daily run through of the Major government and learned some interesting, and sometimes ridiculous, things about how Westminster operates. No doubt many of these tales were revelatory when this was published but since it’s been some time, they have become more common knowledge. Good to be able to read the original source though! I wonder how much has changed since then.
